
UAE
The United Arab Emirates, or UAE for short, is a country located in the southeast of the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The UAE consists of seven emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah and Umm al-Qa'wayn. Abu Dhabi, the capital and second largest emirate of the country, is also the political, industrial and cultural center of the country.
The most important source of income for the United Arab Emirates is oil. In 1992, it produced a total of 837 million barrels of oil. After the agreement between the OPEC countries in 1993, daily oil production was 2 million 160 thousand barrels. The oil reserves in 1993 were estimated at 64 billion 750 million barrels. Natural gas also makes a significant contribution to the country's economy. In 1992, it produced 25.5 billion m³ of natural gas. The natural gas reserves in 1993 were estimated at 5.5 trillion m³. The share of income from oil and natural gas in the gross domestic product is 47%.
The country's most important industrial establishments are oil refining plants. The refining plants in Ruweis can process 300,000 barrels of oil per day. There are also petrochemical plants in Ruweis that produce petroleum by-products. Natural gas processing plants have also been established in the same region, and these plants produce propane and butane gas. The refining plants in Ummunnar can process 60,000 barrels of oil per day.
